It's Not Magic... It's a Magic Link!
Magic links have served as a cornerstone of the user experience, offering a convenient alternative to traditional password-based logins. These links enable account access without requiring users to remember and enter passwords.
In February 2024, an additional security layer was introduced. When users access an Actionaly link from a new device for the first time, they now encounter a One Time Passcode (OTP) — unique, time-sensitive codes that provide extra verification. This reduces unauthorized access risk, even if emails get forwarded to others.
How Does Authentication Work?
- When clicking a magic link for the first time or on a new device, a unique numeric code is promptly sent to the user's registered email address.
- Users retrieve the code from email and enter it into the app to authenticate.
- Once the correct code is entered, users can continue using secure email links for login and replies.
What Else Do Users Need to Know?
Users only need to complete this OTP process if they've been inactive on Actionaly for 30 days or if they're accessing magic links from a different device or browser.
This periodic reauthentication ensures only registered users interact with platform activities and messages. If a parent forwards an email to another person, that account cannot be accessed from new browsers or devices without email authentication.
