Evolution of the OneRoster Standard to Cater to Families and Improve Equity
June 7, 2023 3:05 PM-3:40 PM PT
Actionaly is leading a discussion for IT leaders on how 1EdTech members collaborate across the 1EdTech ecosystem to continuously improve standards. The main case study is the evolution of the OneRoster standard to support effective communication with families. This session will also give participants insight into longer-term goals for OneRoster, including how codifying the nuances of family structure could improve equity in communications, particularly for hard-to-reach families. The session will also review the 1EdTech characterization process, whereby member organizations can better address their specific use for a standard.
Optimize or Overwhelm: Critical Choices for Family Engagement with Tech
June 7, 2023, 11:15 AM-12:00 PM PT
Despite decades of research demonstrating the strong connection between family engagement and student success, the most common methods are too unreliable, too infrequent, and fail to account for the diversity of families. Mobile technology is rapidly changing how schools interact with guardians, with huge opportunities and potential pitfalls. As districts and individual educators have digitized systems and communication, the number of products and portals has grown without much thought about how navigation might overwhelm or confuse users. This session will present findings from a forthcoming white paper and showcase specific strategies used to keep families informed and engaged in their child's education. Actionaly is honored to be co-presenting with one of our closest district partners, Reed Union School District.
