Actionaly Earns TrustEd Apps Seal for Privacy and Data Security

Actionaly is proud to announce our privacy and data security policies and practices met or exceeded the criteria required for 1EdTech TrustEd Apps certification. As part of the vetting process, Actionaly submitted evidence for each item on a 26-item rubric that covers data collection, security, third-party data, and advertising.

Recent findings show an alarming number of apps and sites collect and transmit user data to dubious third parties, including data brokers that package data into profiles for resale. Now more than ever, edtech companies need to go beyond promises and pledges and have their policies certified.

TrustEd Apps Leads Student Privacy and Security Certifications

TrustEd Apps is one of the most highly regarded certifications for student data privacy. According to an Internet Safety Labs (ISL) June 2023 report, TrustEd Apps rise above other well-known industry certifications and promises. ISL made special note of the absence of retargeting ads and in-app digital ads in their sample of 1EdTech certified products. Custom-built apps some districts use to communicate with families were flagged for privacy issues at a much higher rate than regular apps!

In their analysis, Internet Safety Labs found that 71% of schools are not vetting edtech systematically. Luckily, 1EdTech is now aggregating privacy vetting data to share with districts and feeding it into other systems. Schools can even launch approved applications directly from a dashboard in some of the most widely used SSO and LMS platforms, thanks to the TrustEd Apps Management Suite.
